Overview

Sara Svedberg focuses her practice on complex civil litigation in the areas of products liability, employment, trade secrets, and other commercial disputes. As part of her practice, Sara has achieved numerous successes for her clients through significant summary dispositions of claims at the federal and state court trial court level, in trial, as well as through appeals to the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals. She has successfully prosecuted complex trade secret and restrictive covenant claims on behalf of clients, from the pleading stages through summary judgment and during lengthy trial. As defense counsel, she also has experience challenging the qualifications and reliability of proffered experts retained by plaintiffs in complex civil litigation, resulting in the summary disposition of claims.

While Sara thrives in a courtroom, she works with clients, often HR departments, on compliance issues on an ongoing basis. As such, Sara counsels companies, organizations, and federal contractors on employment matters, including issues arising under the ADA, ADEA, FLSA, FMLA, and Title VII, as well as on non-competes and other restrictive covenants. Sara also understands the importance of resolving disputes pre-litigation if possible and works with her clients to develop strategies that account for their specific circumstances and goals.

As a native of Sweden, Sara also maintains an active international practice in which she counsels companies and individuals moving their operations to the United States, and she travels overseas a few times a year in that capacity. Most recently, she has provided assistance to first- and second-tier automotive suppliers looking to establish a presence near the OEMs operating in the Southeast.

Before joining the firm, Sara served as a law clerk for the Honorable Joseph F. Anderson Jr., U.S. District Judge, District of South Carolina, Columbia Division. As a judicial law clerk, she worked on several matters relevant to her practice. During her clerkship, she also had the honor of drafting appellate opinions while Judge Anderson was sitting by designation at the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals.
