Nexsen Pruet's Sara Svedberg Graduates from Leadership Columbia Class of 2021

07.06.2021

Nexsen Pruet's Sara Svedberg has successfully graduated from the Columbia Chamber of Commerce's Leadership Columbia Class. During the program, Sara received an in-depth view of community issues, developed leadership skills, and participated in a team project with the Midlands Fatherhood Coalition.

According to the Columbia Chamber of Commerce's website, the 10-month skills-building program aims to identify and motivate emerging community leaders; provide an educational experience with a strong emphasis on social and community awareness; and challenge participants to apply their talents within their community while providing an opportunity to become involved.

About Sara Svedberg

Sara is an employment and labor law attorney in Columbia, and she concentrates her practice on advising businesses on employment law matters — including ADA, ADEA, FLSA, FMLA, and Title VII compliance — and representing companies in civil litigation in both state and federal courts. She also advises federal contractors on their legal compliance responsibilities.

Before joining Nexsen Pruet, Sara served as a law clerk for the Honorable Joseph F. Anderson Jr., U.S. District Judge, District of South Carolina, Columbia Division. As a judicial law clerk, she worked on several matters relevant to her practice, including complex civil litigation and on whistleblower cases brought under the False Claims Act. During her clerkship, she had the honor of drafting two opinions for the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals while Judge Anderson was sitting by designation.

Before beginning her law career, Sara was the business editor of The State newspaper in Columbia, South Carolina, from July 2006 to January 2010. In that capacity, she guided business news coverage for the daily newspaper, a monthly business magazine, and two weekly business sections, supervising and editing a staff of reporters.

Reflecting her belief that it’s important to be involved in the community, Sara works as a volunteer in the local school district and for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and while an editor for The State, she was the coordinator of the “20 Under 40” Leadership Program.
