Andrew A. Mathias

Andrew Mathias is a high-stakes litigator with experience in diverse disciplines, including winner-take-all civil litigation and white-collar criminal prosecutions. Andrew handles shareholder divorces, commercial disputes, and significant tort cases. He guides individuals and businesses—large and small—through internal and government investigations. Relying on this diverse experience, Andrew also mediates all types of civil matters.

Andrew often represents government contractors, healthcare providers, and high net-worth individuals in litigation significant enough to alter their futures. Andrew's litigation practice has taken him up and down the East Coast. He is licensed to practice in all South Carolina courts, the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, the Second Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court. In addition, he has been admitted to practice pro hac vice (for a particular case) in other courts, including the Eastern District of North Carolina, the Southern District of New York, the Southern District of Texas, and the District of New Hampshire.

Andrew's practice involves negotiating with private civil lawyers and government prosecutors. He also interacts with civil and criminal investigators at all levels of the justice system, including, but not limited to, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Secret Service, Department of Transportation (DOT), Internal Revenue Service (IRS), and Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). In South Carolina, Andrew regularly interacts with the Attorney General's office, the Department of Revenue (SCDOR), and the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR).

Andrew's trial experience spans all courts. He's handled high-profile white-collar criminal cases in the Southern District of New York (SDNY) and civil and criminal matters in South Carolina's state courts. In addition, Andrew has represented clients in appeals in a similar range of courts, from all South Carolina appellate courts to the United States Supreme Court and the intermediary federal appellate courts. Given Andrew's demonstrated competency, he's served as court-appointment "Receiver" and was responsible for all company financial matters during the pendency of litigation.

Andrew's internal investigations and white-collar criminal defense practice have garnered clients in the financial industry from across the country. He represents banks, investment advisory representatives, independent registered investment advisors, broker-dealers, and independent insurance advisors. In many instances, prosecution is avoidable. But, when his clients are indicted, Andrew and the team of white-collar defense lawyers at Maynard Nexsen will aggressively handle a case through trial.

Andrew is also involved in political and redistricting litigation. For instance, in the last two redistricting cycles, Andrew represented legislative leaders in federal court challenges to newly enacted state house, state senate, and the United States congressional districts.
