Overview
Jimmy counsels clients in all aspects of employee benefits law, including fiduciary aspects of ERISA, qualified pension (both traditional and cash balance plans) and 401(k) profit sharing plans, ESOPs (leveraged and non-leveraged), non-qualified deferred compensation plans, welfare benefit plans, severance plans and deferred compensation agreements for governmental and not-for-profit organizations. Additionally, Jimmy advises clients on all aspects of employee benefit plan issues arising in mergers and acquisitions, from conducting due diligence to integrating employee benefit plans and breaking-up of such plans. He also represents clients in preparing for and managing IRS and DOL audits and correcting plan defects in tax-qualified retirement plans through IRS and DOL voluntary correction programs.
Jimmy is a Shareholder in the Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation practice at Maynard Nexsen. He is listed in The Best Lawyers in America© in the area of Employee Benefits (ERISA) Law, and he was also recognized as the Best Lawyers 2019 "Lawyer of the Year" in this area of law.
He worked as a tax consultant for Deloitte prior to attending law school. He received his J.D. from the University of Alabama School of Law and holds a B.S. in Accounting from UAB.
