Overview

Jake is an Associate in the Firm’s Insurance practice group. Before joining Maynard Nexsen as an Associate, he worked as a legal extern, where he assisted attorneys with matters involving insurance coverage and bad faith, commercial contracts, individual life insurance contracts, and Employee Retirement Income Security Act (“ERISA”) disability claims.

Through his other summer clerkships, Jake also gained a wide variety of litigation experience, including insurance coverage and bad faith, product liability, statutory claims under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (“FCRA”), and class actions involving data breaches, privacy-related issues, Driver’s Privacy Protection Act (“DPPA”) claims, Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (“FDCPA”) claims, securities fraud, and breach of ERISA fiduciary duties. He also engaged in pre-litigation work in intellectual property, business operations, long-term care (“LTC”) provider licensure, and compliance matters.

Prior to starting at Samford University’s Cumberland School of Law as a Merit Scholar for the Class of 2025, Jake worked for a pharmacy benefit management (“PBM”) service organization analyzing PBM contracts and claims data on behalf of self-funded employer health plans and their employee benefits consultants. Jake was named the MVP of the Commercial Excellence Department in his final year at the company and plans to use this experience to provide guidance to clients in the highly regulated PBM space.

He earned his B.S. in Commerce and Business Administration from the University of Alabama, where he majored in Management Information Systems and minored in Computer Tech and Applications. As an undergraduate, Jake was a Presidential Scholar and a Member of the UA Honors College. He also volunteered through the READ Honors Program and Believe UA Mentoring.
