Overview
Brytne is a Shareholder in Maynard Nexsen’s Insurance practice group. Brytne helps her clients navigate the complex and heavily regulated insurance industry. Brytne serves as a trusted legal advisor with experience in regulatory compliance, contract negotiation, and strategic legal guidance for the pharmacy and healthcare sectors.
Brytne provides counsel on complex pharmacy benefit regulations impacting self-funded and fully insured health plans across Commercial, Exchange, Medicaid, Medicare Part D, and D-SNP programs, ensuring compliance with state and federal laws. She advises clients on data-sharing, HIPAA compliance, and regulatory compliance; drafts, negotiates, and reviews contracts for vendors and providers; and regularly manages regulatory exams, audits, disputes, and inquiries, ensuring timely and compliant resolution.
Brytne has served as outside counsel for managed care organizations, health plans, insurance companies, third-party administrators, pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs), and insurance agencies throughout the United States. She has extensive experience advising on medical and prescription drug benefits, including compliance with complex network access and plan design requirements at the state and federal levels. Brytne also counsels on the development and implementation of innovative product offerings and plan designs, such as value-based arrangements, alternative funding strategies, specialty drug management, and emerging benefit structures.
With deep knowledge of federal regulations, including ERISA, ACA, and CAA, she supports clients in navigating multi-state compliance matters such as licensing, service area expansions, product filings, holding company filings, and corporate dissolutions. She monitors legislative and regulatory developments, offering timely insights and developing tailored legal and compliance training, empowering clients to navigate evolving regulatory challenges, including response to transparency laws, network adequacy, benefit design standards, and utilization management reforms.
Brytne also has experience supporting clients with licensing, routine compliance, and corporate governance matters, as well as mergers, acquisitions, withdrawals, and dissolutions. She is skilled at managing multi-state licensing and expansion projects for insurance companies, insurance agents, and third-party administrators. Brytne also represents clients before state insurance departments and in administrative appeals in both state and federal courts.
Prior to joining Maynard Nexsen, Brytne served as in-house counsel for UnitedHealthcare, specializing in pharmacy benefits. Brytne also clerked for the Hon. Jeff Brown of the Supreme Court of Texas.
Brytne holds a J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law, where she was a member of the Texas Environmental Law Journal. She earned a B.S. in Organizational Business Administration from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
