Overview

Andrew Carter is an Associate in Maynard Nexsen's Construction and Business Litigation practice groups. Andrew frequently represents owners, contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers in construction matters. When disputes arise, he has experience representing clients in a wide array of construction issues, including contractual disputes, defects, delays, and lien and bond claims. He drafts construction contracts and subcontracts.

Additionally, Andrew has broad business litigation experience representing clients in various complex commercial matters, financial institutions in collection matters, and insurance coverage and bad-faith litigation. He also provides legal guidance in eminent domain and condemnation cases, assisting landowners—both individuals and businesses—against condemning authorities concerning total or partial land takings for new highways, schools, gas and power line easements, and other public purposes.

Andrew has experience conducting all stages of litigation, including analyzing case law, drafting memoranda, motions, and briefs on complex commercial, product liability, higher education, and construction issues. He has drafted discovery requests, responses, and settlement agreements, and negotiated commercial contract settlements. Andrew also has court experience arguing motions on behalf of his clients.

Andrew holds a J.D. from Elon University School of Law, where he served as Staff Editor of the Elon Law Review. He earned a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Louisville, where he was a member of the National Political Honor Society. He was also a member of Louisville's NCAA Division I Men's Tennis team, earning a spot in the school's tennis hall of fame.

After a successful collegiate tennis career, Andrew spent six years competing on the professional tennis world tour as a player with the Association of Tennis Professionals, holding an ATP ranking and competing against the best competition in the world. In addition to his legal career, Andrew operates his own business, "On the Rise Coaching," through which he coaches and mentors aspiring elite athletes nationwide.
