Overview

Allen is a Governmental Affairs Advisor in Maynard Nexsen’s Government Solutions practice group. A native South Carolinian, he has extensive policy, advocacy, communications, and problem-solving experience forged on Capitol Hill, the Statehouse, and the campaign trail.

Allen brings over 15 years of experience working for the U.S. House of Representatives and on political campaigns, where he served as Chief of Staff, Deputy Chief of Staff, and Communications Director in the Office of Congressman Jeff Duncan, Chairman of the Subcommittee on Energy, Climate, and Grid Security. In this role, he worked extensively with executive branch officials, House leadership, and the private sector on policies impacting the state and nation.

As personal office and shared committee staff, Allen worked closely on policy issues before the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, including energy, environmental regulation, telecommunications, digital commerce and privacy, consumer protection, food and drug safety, healthcare, and interstate and foreign commerce. During his time working in Congress, Allen assisted in the drafting of what would become known as the ADVANCE Act, the most substantial update to nuclear energy policy in a generation. Allen also has extensive experience working on trade, tax, and regulatory policy.

An experienced advocate for the business community, Allen served as the Vice President of Government Relations for the South Carolina Manufacturers Alliance, managing the organization’s legislative and policy efforts, including directing legislative strategy for the South Carolina Tire Council.

Allen holds an M.A. in Defense and Strategic Studies from the U.S. Naval War College. He earned his B.A. in Political Science & Philosophy from the University of South Carolina.
