Overview
Alex Serkes is a Shareholder in the Firm's Raleigh office whose practice centers on complex commercial real estate transactions, real estate development, and corporate law matters nationwide. With extensive experience across a broad range of deal structures, Alex represents developers, homebuilders, portfolio managers, real estate investors, REITs, and commercial real estate owners in high-value purchase and sale transactions, borrower financing transactions, and commercial leasing matters across the United States.
Alex specializes in representing residential developers and homebuilders in the acquisition, development, and sale of raw land, entitled land, and developed lots for residential communities and master-planned developments. His experience spans single-family subdivisions, large-scale mixed use and master-planned communities, and other strategic land development transactions.
In addition to residential development work, Alex advises clients on the acquisition, disposition, financing, leasing and development of retail shopping centers, industrial properties, and other commercial real estate assets. He regularly counsels institutional owners, operators, and investors on complex deal structuring, due diligence, contract negotiation, entitlement issues, and transactional risk management—covering each phase of the real estate transaction lifecycle.
Alex also advises clients on land use and zoning matters, corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, and general business transactions, providing clients with an integrated legal perspective on both real estate and corporate strategy.
Alex earned his Juris Doctor cum laude from the University of South Carolina School of Law and received his undergraduate degree from East Carolina University.
Outside Maynard Nexsen
Alex is a sports fanatic, and enjoys watching college and professional basketball and football. Alex is a big fan and supporter of East Carolina Pirates and South Carolina Gamecocks athletics.
When Alex is not in the office, he enjoys spending as much time as he can with his family hiking, playing basketball, watching sports, and re-watching The Wire.
