Maynard Nexsen adds to Premier Real Estate Practice in Birmingham
Experienced commercial real estate and municipal law leader enhances one of the region’s most respected real estate teams
Maynard Nexsen PC is pleased to announce that Birmingham native, Phillip D. Corley, Jr. has joined the Firm’s Real Estate practice. A seasoned real estate attorney, Phillip brings extensive experience representing lenders, borrowers, and developers in sophisticated commercial real estate transactions.
Phillip’s practice focuses on real estate law, commercial lending, commercial transactions, and municipal law. He has extensive experience representing clients in a variety of land use and zoning matters, including rezonings, special permits, and variances. He has significant experience advising developers and investors on the acquisition, development, financing, and leasing of commercial projects and lenders on complex commercial mortgage matters, including portfolio loans, CMBS transactions, Fannie Mae loans, and related credit facilities. His depth of experience allows him to skillfully guide clients through the legal and strategic considerations involved in complex real estate matters.
Prior to joining the Firm, Phillip practiced at a Birmingham-based full-service firm, where he served for several years as Managing Member while maintaining an active legal practice. His leadership background, combined with his broad legal experience, provides a strong strategic perspective that continues to inform his work on behalf of clients.

In addition to his legal practice, Phillip is deeply engaged in professional and community service. His affiliations include the Alabama State Bar, the American Bar Association, the Birmingham Bar Association, and the Alabama Association of Municipal Attorneys. He previously served as City Attorney for the City of Hoover, Alabama, from 2016 to 2025.
Phillip is a member of Leadership Birmingham (Class of 2025), and an Alabama Law Foundation Fellow. He earned his JD from the University of Alabama School of Law and his BA in history from the University of Alabama.
