New Update: Required Server Training Programs Approved Under New Law

The DOR has now approved server training programs under H.3430. These programs are available for registration at dor.sc.gov/abl-server-training.

View the DOR Flyer here for further information.

Mandatory Server Training

  • All on-premises alcohol servers and managers who oversee alcohol service must complete state-certified training every three years.
  • Training includes alcohol law, ID verification, recognizing intoxication, and safe service practices.
  • Certificates must be available for inspection and tracked by the S.C. Department of Revenue.
  • Must complete training program by March 2, 2026 or within 30 days of employment.

Only approved alcohol server training programs qualify.

After successfully completing an approved program, servers will receive a certificate number from the training provider. The provider has 10 days to submit this information to the SCDOR, who will then make the certificates available online.

To download an alcohol server certificate, go to dor.sc.gov/AlcoholServerCertificate. You’ll need the server’s name and server certificate number.

Penalties Associated

  • Failure to maintain or provide copies of alcohol server certificates for all managers and alcohol servers throughout their employment: $100 fine per violation
  • Allowing an employee without a valid alcohol server certificate to serve alcohol: $500 fine per violation
  • Allowing an intoxicated or otherwise impaired employee to serve alcohol:
    • First offense: $100 fine
    • Second offense: $500 fine
    • Third offense: $1,000 fine and a 5-day suspension
    • Fourth offense: 30-day suspension
