Overview

Tim is an associate attorney in Maynard Nexsen’s Construction practice group. Within that group, he naturally concentrates his practice on construction law. Specifically, Tim has experience acting as project counsel (helping clients keep active construction projects on track); noticing and perfecting mechanic’s and materialman’s lien claims under the Texas Property Code; noticing and perfecting payment bond claims under the Texas Government Code; litigating and arbitrating formal construction disputes; and negotiating various construction contracts. His experience in these areas extends to working with owners, contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, sureties, and insurers. He has experience representing these parties in various construction industries, including commercial projects, industrial projects, heavy highway and civil projects, and (occasionally) residential projects.

In addition to construction law, Tim has unique experience practicing in federal court, at both the district and appellate levels. His federal practice focused on complex regulatory disputes (e.g., aviation law, environmental law). While he does not concentrate on these areas, his experience has nevertheless proved invaluable to him—regulatory disputes are notoriously complex and sophisticated, and learning to navigate them has only sharpened his skills as an attorney.

Tim earned his Juris Doctor, summa cum laude (i.e., with highest honor), from South Texas College of Law Houston. While there, he also contributed to two legal journals: the South Texas Law Review and the Construction Law Journal. He was also a member of the Phi Delta Phi Honor Society, on the Dean’s List, a Presidential Fellow, and a member of the Real Estate & Construction Law Society. He earned his Bachelor of Science from Texas A&M University’s School of Architecture, majoring in Construction Science and minoring in Business.

In addition to his legal experience and formal education, Tim was exposed to the world of construction at a young age. His family owns and operates a construction company that builds roads, bridges, and other civil infrastructure. He grew up working at the company during summers, spent time there as an intern while pursuing his degree in Construction Science, and returned to work there after graduating from Texas A&M University (prior to attending law school). His experience working at the various levels of the family company lends him unique insight into the construction industry, which ultimately allows him to approach complex legal problems from a real-world perspective.
