Overview
Sarah Ashley, or Sash, is a Charlotte native who concentrates her practice on complex business, construction, and financial services litigation. She represents individuals, privately held companies, publicly traded entities, and local governments in state and federal courts, as well as in alternative dispute resolution proceedings.
Although her practice is focused on litigation, she helps clients avoid litigation by giving proactive advice at the outset of projects to mitigate risks, manage disputes, and increase the likelihood of successful project outcomes.
In the construction arena, Sash has extensive experience with construction contracts and represents clients in litigation and arbitration involving a wide range of issues, including delay, construction defects, change order disputes, differing site conditions, labor productivity losses and inefficiencies, failure to pay, contract interpretation, insurance coverage, design errors and omissions, mechanics liens, and statutory violations.
Sash also has significant experience representing local governments in code enforcement matters, including prosecuting and defending enforcement actions related to zoning, land use, and property maintenance regulations.
In addition, Sash has represented community banks, credit unions, and large banks in collection matters.
Sash earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Richmond School of Law, where she served as Manuscripts Editor of the University of Richmond Law Review. She was featured as a student author in the Richmond Law Review’s January 2017 Book.
Following law school, Sash served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Max O. Cogburn, Jr. of the United States District Court for the Western District of North Carolina, where she gained extensive experience in complex civil litigation and motion practice.
Sash has been recognized in the 2026 edition of Best Lawyers in America as a “Ones to Watch” honoree in Construction Law.
