Overview

Sam Whitt is a seasoned transactional and business lawyer with a broad range of experience.  His practice is diverse and ranges from general counsel services, to creating and counseling innovative companies and understanding and documenting complex transactions. 

Sam has represented corporate clients ranging from start-up ventures to Fortune 500 companies. He has served as in-house counsel and a C-level executive of several investor-backed companies in the Research Triangle Park, NC area. His hands-on experience and versatility enables him to counsel clients on a broad range of activities, such as:

Sam has helped with the creation, growth and success of many different companies and nonprofit organizations.  His background as both an operator and attorney offers a unique perspective and skillset that benefits his clients with technical and strategic insights. 

Sam earned his B.S. degree in Accounting from Brigham Young University and worked for a “Big 8” public accounting firm prior to Law School.  He earned his Juris Doctor from George Mason University School of Law where he served on the Law Review.  He is a native of Vienna, Virginia.  He and his wife raised their five children in Raleigh, North Carolina, where he remains an active member of the community through church and various civic organizations.  In his younger years, Sam was recognized as “40 Under 40” by the Triangle Business Journal.

Outside Maynard Nexsen

When untethered from his office desk, Sam enjoys being outdoors and seeing new sights with his wife and children.  He has traveled to six continents and over twenty countries.  He has twice hiked into Machu Picchu and has played golf in a quarter of the Top 100 U.S. golf courses.  Sam supported a local Boy Scout troop for years, including numerous week-long, 60+ mile treks along the Appalachian Trail.  He hopes to complete his goal of visiting all Major League baseball parks before his memory really begins to fade.
