Mackenzie Matthews

Mackenzie Matthews is an Associate in Maynard Nexsen's Construction practice group. Mackenzie represents owners, contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers in construction matters. When disputes arise, she has experience representing clients in a wide array of construction issues, including contractual disputes, delays, and lien and bond claims. She drafts construction contracts and subcontracts.

Additionally, Mackenzie has business litigation experience representing financial institutions in collection matters and insurance coverage and bad-faith litigation. She also provides legal guidance in eminent domain and condemnation cases, assisting landowners—both individuals and businesses—against condemning authorities concerning total or partial land takings.

Mackenzie also has experience with state and local tax controversy, representing taxpayers in property tax appeals before county Boards of Equalization and Review and the North Carolina Property Tax Commission. She represents clients within a variety of property classes and industries, including commercial, multifamily, townhome developments, and industrial, as well as exempt property classes such as low- to moderate-income housing.

Mackenzie holds a J.D. from Wake Forest University School of Law, where she served as the captain of Wake Forest’s National Trial Team and Executive Director of the Public Interest Law Organization. She earned a B.A. in English from the University of South Carolina, where she was a student-athlete on the NCAA Division 1 Equestrian Team.
