Overview

Charles is a Shareholder in Maynard Nexsen’s Private Markets and Real Estate practice groups.

Charles' practice includes advising sponsors on various business and legal aspects of commercial real estate transactions, including acquisition, development, management, leasing, operations, debt financing and equity capital investments. Charles also represents institutional lenders and regional banks with respect to various types of debt financings, from interest-only construction loans to permanent loans and mezzanine financings.  

With over 20 years of experience, both as an in-house general counsel as well as a private practice attorney, Charles brings a wealth of knowledge to clients, particularly with respect to transaction structuring, deal point negotiations and capital sourcing. He regularly works on complex real estate financings as well as institutional joint ventures, private placements and private funds.

Prior to joining Maynard Nexsen, Charles served as Executive Vice President of Transactions and Risk Management at Barber Partners, LLC, a boutique real estate development firm he co-founded in 2020. Charles was responsible for overseeing all transactional, capital markets and legal activities of Barber Partners, including the structuring and negotiation of project investments and debt and equity capital transactions, as well as risk management and legal oversight.

Prior to co-founding Barber Partners, Charles served as Executive Vice President and General Counsel of Encore Enterprises, Inc., a large real estate investment company, where he supervised over $2 billion of real estate investments for the firm, including multi-family, hospitality, office, retail and single-family housing developments.  In his role, Charles also served on the Board of Directors and the Investment Committee.

Prior to joining Encore, Charles spent over ten years, collectively, at an Am Law 100 New York firm and a Southeastern regional law firm.

Charles holds a J.D., with distinction, from Hofstra University School of Law, where he was a member of the Law Review. He earned his B.S. in Finance, cum laude, from Boston College.

EB-5 Equity
  • Formation of 16 regional centers across the U.S.

Public Bond Offering
  • $167MM initial public offering on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange consisting of Series A secured bonds as well as Series B unsecured bonds. Portfolio consisted of multi-family, hospitality, office and retail properties across the U.S.
Miscellaneous
  • Acquisition and development of over 100 fast-casual restaurants stores across the U.S.
