Overview
Alex Heaton is a Shareholder in the firm's Real Estate practice group, where he advises a diverse range of clients, including developers, investors, operating companies, and financial institutions. He provides strategic counsel across multiple sectors, focusing on hospitality, industrial, government, housing, and renewable energy development. Alex also represents specialty lenders and private equity groups in sophisticated financing structures, including preferred equity, mezzanine, bridge, and construction lending. Clients value his ability to craft operating and investment strategies that harmonize business objectives with legal structures.
Alex's broad experience encompasses new development construction, the exchange of distressed debt, implementing EB-5 investments, and the acquisition and disposition of operating assets. He is also adept at negotiating entitlements and other crucial development rights. Additionally, Alex frequently represents lenders in various commercial real estate financing matters, including distressed debt portfolio acquisitions and dispositions, participations, modifications, originations, and workouts.
Beyond his practice, Alex is deeply committed to community betterment, having received pro bono distinction every year of his legal career. He earned his J.D. and Master's from Georgia State University and is a proud graduate of the Urban Land Institute Atlanta District Council’s Center for Leadership and Leadership Jackson Hole (Wyoming).
