Former Chief Attorney of State Environmental Agency joins Columbia office

Maynard Nexsen is pleased to announce that Jessie King has joined the firm’s Columbia office as a Shareholder in its Environmental practice.

Jessie brings nearly 30 years of experience advising clients on the full spectrum of environmental law involving land, air, and water. She regularly works with clients to obtain environmental permits, respond to notices of violation and environmental litigation, navigate regulatory requirements, and react to releases of hazardous substances.

Jessie is also widely recognized for her ability to guide companies through the environmental due diligence process in complex matters such as mergers, acquisitions, and the siting of new facilities. Her clients span a broad range of industries, including manufacturing, waste management, mining, agriculture, real estate development, and financial services.

Early in her career, Jessie served as Chief Attorney for the Environmental Quality Control Division of the South Carolina Department of Environmental Services (SCDES), where she played a key role in drafting and enforcing environmental laws, regulations, and permits related to air, water, land use, and waste management. Her deep regulatory experience provides clients with invaluable insight into navigating evolving environmental requirements.

Jessie earned her J.D. from the University of South Carolina School of Law and her B.A. from Roanoke College.

She is actively involved in numerous professional and community organizations, including the Carolina Air Pollution Control Association (Past President), Solid Waste Association of North America (Board Member), South Carolina Aggregates Association and several other regional and national industry groups. She has been consistently recognized for her work in environmental law, including honors from Chambers USA and The Best Lawyers in America®, and has been named Best Lawyers® “Lawyer of the Year” for Litigation – Environmental in Columbia multiple times.
