Maynard Nexsen Attorney Appointed to Senior Leadership at USDA
Neal Robbins, previously Of Counsel in Maynard Nexsen’s Raleigh, North Carolina office, has been named Deputy Under Secretary for Rural Development at the U.S. Department of Agriculture. In this senior leadership role, he will oversee billions of dollars in programs supporting housing, utilities, and community development across rural America. Rural Development manages initiatives that fund housing, enhance water and waste systems, expand broadband access, develop electric infrastructure, and provide grants and loans to rural businesses and community facilities.
A native of Asheboro, NC, Robbins’ professional experience spans manufacturing law, rural economic development, financial transactions, and service in the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality.
"Neal's expertise in governmental affairs and his ability to build connections have greatly strengthened our team," said David Ferrell, Governmental Relations lead at Maynard Nexsen’s Raleigh office. "We congratulate him on his well-earned USDA appointment and are excited to see his leadership shine at the federal level."
At Maynard Nexsen, Robbins advised clients and trade organizations on pending legislation and regulatory changes. Outside of the firm, Robbins founded North State Media LLC and is the publisher of the North State Journal, North Carolina's first and only statewide newspaper. Prior to his time at Maynard Nexsen, Robbins served as the Director of Legislative & Intergovernmental Affairs for the State of North Carolina's Department of Environment and Natural Resources from 2013-2015.
Reflecting on his new role, Robbins stated, “As someone from a rural North Carolina community, I’m honored to take on this opportunity to make a meaningful impact on rural areas.”
Robbins joins USDA leadership as the agency focuses on implementing its budget priorities and managing a nationwide portfolio of loans, grants, and guarantees to ensure the long-term sustainability of rural communities.
