Jeff Grantham Interviewed by Law.com on Maynard Nexsen’s Success, Culture, and Vision

03.18.2026

Maynard Nexsen continued to build momentum in 2025, driven by rising client demand, strategic lateral partner additions, and the continued strengthening of its national platform, according to CEO and Managing Shareholder Jeff Grantham.

Grantham noted that the firm is now fully realizing the advantages of the combined platform created through the 2023 merger of Maynard Cooper & Gale and Nexsen Pruet, saying that after significant alignment and execution, the firm is seeing the benefits of operating as a larger, more integrated firm.

Broad Demand Across Practices

Client demand increased across both litigation and transactional practices, reflecting the firm’s depth and diversity across service areas. No single matter or practice group dominated activity, underscoring the firm’s balanced and resilient practice mix.

National litigation, real estate, and mergers and acquisitions were particularly active, with the firm’s M&A team handling transactions across multiple industries and regions.

Grantham said the firm saw meaningful demand across a wide range of practices and that breadth speaks to the strength of Maynard Nexsen’s platform and the trust clients place in the firm.

Strategic Lateral Growth Enhances Capabilities

Lateral partner recruitment remained a key component of the firm’s growth strategy in 2025. Maynard Nexsen welcomed a number of experienced partners across several offices and practice areas, reinforcing its commitment to adding high-quality talent that expands client services and deepens expertise.

Many of those lateral attorneys quickly integrated into the firm and exceeded expectations, contributing to practice growth and enhanced client relationships.

The firm also continued to invest in its attorney base overall, growing headcount to support existing clients and meet rising demand.

Expanding National Presence

Grantham noted that the firm’s expanded geographic footprint has increased its attractiveness in the lateral market and positioned Maynard Nexsen to compete effectively for sophisticated work nationally. The firm has benefited from increasing interest among clients seeking alternatives to the largest firms while still requiring scale, experience, and industry depth.

Throughout the year, Maynard Nexsen added attorneys in markets across the country, including the Southeast, Texas, the West Coast, and the Northeast, further strengthening its national reach.

Recruiting remained strong, supported by competitive compensation and a firm culture rooted in collaboration, professional excellence, and community engagement.

Grantham strongly cited Maynard Nexsen’s culture as “core to who we are,” noting that lawyers want to be part of a firm where relationships matter—within the firm, with clients, and in the communities where the firm is located.

Focus on Technology and Long-Term Growth

Technology integration, including the thoughtful adoption of artificial intelligence, continues to be a strategic priority for the firm. Maynard Nexsen is focused on leveraging technology to improve efficiency, enhance client service, and support its lawyers while maintaining strong data governance and security.

Looking ahead, the firm plans to continue growing in markets that align with its long-term strategy. Atlanta remains a key focus given its central position in the Southeast, along with opportunities in Texas, North Carolina, and Tennessee.

“We do want to maintain our dominant position in the middle markets where we’re located ... and recruit the best talent and the best work,” Grantham said. “Where we’re positioned in the market [and] our culture—we see those as opportunities for us in bigger markets where we are smaller right now and have the opportunity to grow.”
